Saturday 30 August 2008The paintings are finished. If everything goes well, the wall and the niches are to be restaurated and on St.Andrew's day, the 30 of November, there should be an official inauguration.

Sobota 30.srpna 2008Malby jsou hotovy. Pokud vše půjde dobře, bude zrekonstruována zeď a kapličky kolem kostela a na sv.Ondřeje, 30.listopadu, bude křížová cesta oficiálně inaugurována.

Ik heb het hele verhaal gelezen en de mooie foto's bekeken, echt heel indrukwekkend. Het moet wel een hele mooie ervaring zijn geweest, vooral als het al zo lang een wens is dit te mogen doen. Zag dat jullie ook al echte beroemdheden aan het worden zijn, met al die krantenartikelen. Hoop wel dat jullie ergens in de schilderijen stiekum een paar nederlandse elementen hebben aangebracht. Wat is het bovendien geweldig dat je met de huidige technieken zo'n blog kunt maken om de rest te laten meegenieten. Dank je wel...

The Dutch will paint a calvary for a churchTwo Dutch artists - Rob van Dolron (61) and Wim Barends (58) decided to donate a calvary for St.Andrew church in Slavonin. They presented the first sketches which will be executed on zinc panels to the journalists."On the church yard, there are 16 chapels in which, according to the witnesses, a calvary was placed in the past. We want to paint a new one. Regarding the fact that a calvary has 14 stations we have to deal with the bigger number and search for inspiration in the tradition," said Barends.The work should be executed on the spot during August. "We would like the project to become a kind of a happening. People can come and see us working. We also believe that people in the neighbourhood will start to think how they can contribute themselves to a better liveability of their town," said Dolron.Neither of the artists could say how big the costs for the calvary would be. Both of them believe, though, that companies and institutions will appreciate their work by a contribution which will cover at least the costs. They plan to compensate for their generosity like it used to be done with donators of paintings in the Middle Ages.Both artists have a relationship to the region dating back to 1990's. In the past, they participated on artistic symposiums, for instance in the Augustinian monastery in Sternberk.In Namest na Hane, five years ago they made a painting on one of the houses within the Fresco project.

Křížovou cestu pro slavonínský kostel namalují Nizozemci

Křížovou cestu na kostele sv. Ondřeje v olomoucké městské části Slavonín chtějí zdarma vytvořit Nizozemci Wim Barends a Rob van Dolron. Novinářům představili první skici, malby na zinkovém plechu by měly vzniknout během srpna přímo na místě.

"Na kostele je 16 kapliček, ve kterých dříve bývala křížová cesta umístěna. Původně má křížová cesta ale jen 14 zastavení, budeme se s tím muset nějak vyrovnat a hledat inspiraci v tradici," řekl Barends.Umělci doufají, že lidé, případně firmy či instituce jejich dílo ocení alespoň příspěvkem, který by pokryl náklady. Jejich štědrost chtějí zvěčnit podobně, jako se to dělávalo ve středověku s donátory obrazů. "Podoba bude ale ryze současná," poznamenal Barends.Oba šedesátníci z Haagu a Rotterdamu si Hanou zamilovali. Na Olomoucko se vracejí od 90. let, Barends se sem dokonce natrvalo přestěhoval. "Účastnili jsme se tady i výtvarných sympozií, například v augustiniánském klášteře ve Šternberku nebo v Náměšti na Hané, kde jsme v programu Freska vyzdobili jeden dům," uvedl van Dolron. Jak řekl, kostel ve Slavoníně nehledali. "On si našel nás," dodal.

The Dutch will paint a new Calvary

St.Andrew churchyard in Slavonin which is a southern quarter of Olomouc is surrounded by a wall with 16 niches where a Calvary was placed. Two Dutch artists, Rob van Dolron and Wim Barends came with the initiative to paint a new Calvary into the niches for free.

“We both graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, the environmental art. It was very popular at that time. Since that time, we have changed a lot but what we still believe in is that the art should be in the streets and not only in galleries and museums,” says Rob van Dolron.

Local people say that the Calvary was still surrounding the church during the 2nd World War. The new Calvary project for the church in Slavonin is being supervised by curators of the Museum of Art and its execution will be based on a traditional iconographic programme.

“You don’t have to be an active believer to recognize that church is a vital part of our Western, European culture. Just the same, you don’t have to be an art historian to be able grasp the potential of the iconographic canon as Calvary,” clarifies Wim Barends their motifs.

The paintings will be placed on their original place while the sketches are being prepared now. The paintings themselves will be executed directly on the spot in August. “Many researches from big towns show that public spaces which are taken care of with dedication are less a target of vandalism. Is it due to a certain respect? If yes, it proves that art in public spaces contributes to a certain social behaviour which is common to a man,” claim both Dutch artists who have been impressed by a Moravian countryside to such an extend that they want to make this work of art as their imprint here.

SLAVONÍN – OLOMOUC: Kostel sv. Ondřeje stojí ve Slavoníně, což je městská část rozprostírající se na jižním okraji Olomouce. Kostelní dvůr zde obklopuje zeď se 16 kapličkami, ve kterých bývala Křížová cesta. Dva nizozemští výtvarníci Rob van Dolron a Wim Barends přišli s iniciativou že do kapliček namalují zdarma novou Křížovou cestu.
“Oba jsme absolvovali akademii výtvarného umění, obor environmentální umění. To bylo tehdy velmi v kurzu. Od té doby jsme se hodně změnili, ale stále věříme v to, že umění by mělo být na ulicích, a ne jen v galeriích a muzeích,” říká Rob van Dolron.
Dle výpovědí místních obyvatel křížová cesta v kapličkách byla umístěna ještě za 2. světové války. Projekt nové Křížové cesty pro kostel ve Slavoníně zaštiťují kurátoři Muzea umění v Olomouci a bude realizován na základě tradičního ikonografického programu.
“Nemusíte být aktivní věřící, abyste uznal, že církev je vitální součástí naší západní, evropské kultury. Stejně tak nemusíte být historik umění, abyste uchopil potenciál ikonografického kánonu, jakým je kalvárie,” přibližuje svoje pohnutky Wim Barends.
Obrazy budou umístěny na původní místo a v současné době se připravují skici. Malby samotné zhotoví umělci přímo na místě v srpnu. “Mnohé výzkumy z velkých měst ukazují, že veřejná prostranství, kterým se dostává více péče a obětavosti, se stávají méně často cílem vandalů. Je to kvůli určitému respektu? Pokud ano, dokazuje to, že umění na veřejných místech přispívá k jistému sociálnímu chování, které je člověku vlastní,” prohlašují jedním dechem oba nizozemští výtvarníci, které moravská krajina oslovila natolik, že v ní chtějí jako otisk sebe zanechat umělecké dílo.
